Ksi Lisims Approved

Ksi Lisims LNG approval was announced today and the reasons for decision published. Apparently, the decision was delayed, not made and then left unannounced:

The 30-day decision period was extended by nine days to provide additional time for the ministers to consider materials, including submissions from First Nations.

There is a lot to say about the Reasons for Decision. We have not had time to go through in detail yet, but among them:

• most First Nations consulted explicitly "did not consent"
• the Province claims, in this document, to have consulted Gitanyow Hereditary Chiefs, despite GHC having sued the Province for not consulting them and a judge recently ruling against GHC on the grounds that they did not need to consult them. At least at first glance this appears very perverse

It seems notable that this announcement came in a press release without a big photo shoot (a la Cedar LNG).
