LNG Canada Production Updates
LNG Canada has ramped up production steadily since it faced major technical issues in December. However, within a day of Reuters implying that LNG Canada was ramping up production as a response to the impending global energy crisis resulting from the US-Israeli attack on Iran, LNG Canada announced a 24-hour "planned" flaring event followed by an "unplanned" flaring event that would last as long as a week. These announcements were coupled with a gap of more than four days between export shipments, the longest the facility has had since December. Another shipment has now left the facility, suggesting that whatever issue caused the delay and the unplanned flaring may have been addressed.
Final Investment Decision Timelines
In January, Rebecca Scott, the spokesperson for Western LNG (formerly with Woodfibre LNG and, before that, the BC Liberals), told the Vancouver Sun the company expects to reach a final investment decision by the end of March. This seems unlikely given that the project has announced no new offtake agreements. The company's CEO, Davis Thames, has not given a timeline when he has spoken with media in the months since. It does not appear as though there is any reason to expect a sudden announcement in the next few weeks.
LNG Canada has been vaguer about its Phase 2 timeline, though like Ksi Lisims, there have been some public indications it will reach a decision—positive or negative—some time in 2026. Public statements by PETRONAS, one of the state-owned oil companies that owns LNG Canada, have diverged from those of the consortium, with PETRONAS speaking more specifically about an FID this year.
New LNG Canada Shipment Tracker
There is a new online dashboard for monitoring and tracking export shipments from LNG Canada. These data are typically only available through immensely expensive proprietary licenses with companies like KPler, so the new dashboard and data tracking system could be valuable for journalists and researchers who don't have access to those licenses.

Federal Government and Norwegian Company Developing Baie-Comeau LNG on Quebec's Côte-Nord
A Norwegian company, Marinvest Energy AS, is developing an LNG project proposal in Quebec's Côte-Nord with the aggressive support of the federal government, which has created a "deal team" to move the project forward. Bizarrely, the project has almost no public footprint, and freedom of information requests have indicated that Marinvest is subject to an NDA signed with the government of Canada.
The Baie-Comeau LNG project would include a segment of new pipeline to connect the project to an existing network. The existing network—which brings gas from the Montney and Alberta to eastern Canada—is largely owned by TC Energy. The Chief Operating Officer of Marinvest Energy Canada, Greg Cano, previously worked for both TC Energy and Pacific Atlantic Pipeline Construction Ltd. (PAPC), a contractor on the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
